Title | Petition from Jean Henry De Bérenger, of Erlang to John Rutledge, President of South Carolina |
Date | 10 Oct 1785 |
Description | Asking him to force the sale of the late Patrick Mackay's plantation and send him some of the proceeds. Mackay owed De Bérenger a significant sum. According to the author, the land had now passed illegally to David Montague. He would like the plantation to be repossessed and asks for damages as David Montague had never sent him any rent or a share of the profit in the previous years. Includes a statement of the money owed to him. Also includes copies of two letters between the Earl of Dartmouth to William Bull, of Charlestown; and copy of a letter from Jean Henry De Bérenger to Mr Rilliet, banker in Paris. |
