TitleLetter from Jean François De Luc, in Amsterdam to his father Jean André De Luc, in London
Date15 Jun 1780
DescriptionAsking Jean André to give him some news of what was happening in London, especially in relation to Lord North, Prime Minister at the time. Jean François might be referring to the anti-Catholic Gordon Riots that lasted from 2 June to 9 June 1780. It appears that no clear information had reached Amsterdam as to the scale of the unrest in London. Jean François mentions that he had heard from some that the riots had ended, whereas others claimed that the King had fled. The rest of the letter is devoted to recounting day-to-day events and meetings.
