AdminHistoryThe De Ville family originated from France and subsequently moved to Berne to avoid religious persecution. Jaques Louis De Ville appears to be the first individual of the family to have moved from Bern to London, via Guernsey. In the same year, he married in London Margaret Blondell, a 38 year old woman from Guernsey. At the time of their marriage, they were both working as servants at the French Hospital (La Providence). One of their children, Louis, was baptised at the French Church of Spring Gardens in 1751.
CustodialHistoryThe papers belonged to Dr Kathleen De Ville (1915-2006), the last surviving member of the De Ville. Following her death, they were bequeathed to Charles Pharo.
AcquisitionDonated to the Society by Charles Pharo in 2019.
