Description | See also H/J/30. A handsome title page is followed by a Memorandum 'drawn up in explanation of this first book and for the guidance of future Governors'. This recites the terms of Jacques de Gâtigny's bequest and details of the property acquired for the Hospital. An alphabetical list of contributors follows, with sums given. In accordance with Article I of the Memorandum, the accounts then begin from 10 February 1708/9, when Gâtigny bequest of £1000 had been received by the French Committee. Regular accounts begin on 1 April 1719, with the election of Paul Dufour as Treasurer, in place of Royrand Descluzeaux, who had acted since 1715. On pp. 39-41 there is a description of the houses in Bond's Court (Walbrook) acquired in 1726, with particulars of leases and tenants' names. Thereafter, payments of rent appear regularly. On pp. 55-57 are details of the legacy from Moyse de Pujolas, and on pp. 77-81 particulars of the will of Mme Madelaine Mariette, wife of Paul Dufour. Page 190 gives payments to the architect and workmen for the building of a new brewery, and pp. 411-414 (1765) a list of subscribers to the new hospital building. From 1741 to 1759 there are payments for 'assistances externes' (out-gifts). The accounts are detailed, and many personal names occur. |
