Description | H/B/5-10 are titled: 'Livres des receptes et des mises', they were kept by Steward Jean Chaboussant (1720-1727), Mme Marie Marin (1727-1741), and Adam Roumieu (1742-1770). They are rough in appearance but methodically kept. They contain very full particulars of all payments for the daily running of the Hospital, including food, drink, clothing, furniture, hardware, fuel and repairs, as well as salaries and wages, and funeral expenses. Receipts include payments of fees for inmates, collection money, charge for (?visitors) meals and wine, and money left by deceased inmates. The accounts ending in January 1726/7 (when Jean Chaboussant died) are followed by a copy of his daughter Marie Marin's accounts for January 1726/7 to June 1728, as in H/B/5/7. A number of pages in some booklets are crossed through as though fair-copied elsewhere. No accounts for 1736-1737 or 1739-1742 have been found; but for the period 1737-1739 see H/B/7/6. The accounts are certified periodically as audited, and signed by members of the Accounts Committee. H/B/5/11-15 continue the series of day books in a more substantial form. Volume H/B/5/22, covering the dates 1940-1957 should follow H/B/5/23, with an additional volume in between, the whereabouts of which are unknown. |
