TitleJaques Cabanes' petition
Date5 Apr 1768
DescriptionJaques Cabanes, a 37 year old man, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. His father and his late grandfather are both also called Jaques Cabanes. His grandfather was originally from Castres, in Languedoc. Jaques was born with a severe intellectual disability so had to be looked after by his father for his entire life. The latter is a 70 year old painter of fans who is losing his sight, so is struggling to care for his son. The petition is signed by J G De La Saussaye, Pastor; Jean Charron; F L Pillissier and Jacob Bourdillon, Pastor. A note in a different hand states that the petitioner's brother suffered from the same condition and was until his recent death, a resident of the Hospital. Pinned to the petition is a certificate from J Jacquin, a doctor confirming Jaques' condition.
