Description | Elizabeth Maréchaux requests that her son, Abraham, be admitted to the Hospital. He is a 47 year old man. His father, Daniel, was born in London but his grandfather, Anthoine Maréchaux, was from Caen, in Normandy. Abraham has suffered from a mental disability since his childhood and his own father had been a resident of the Hospital for 34 years suffering from the same condition. Abraham had been offered a place in the Hospital four years previously, but since his dementia had improved, he was never admitted. However, his illness has now worsened to the extent that his mother fears for her and her brother in law's life. At the end, a note by Dr Jacquin states that he had visited the petitioner and had found him well. Jacquin must have changed his mind as pinned to the petition is a second certificate from him confirming that Abraham does indeed suffer from dementia, dated 27 July 1769. The petition is signed by Nicholas Sorel. |
