TitleJeanne Carlier, née Martin
Date12 Jul 1799
Date26 Nov 1799
DescriptionJeanne Carlier, a 76 year old widow, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. She was born in Scotland and her late husband was Thomas Carlier. Her father was Pierre Martin and her grandfather, Jean Martin, was originally from French Flanders. She has been a member of the French Church of London for the past forty years and is now too unwell to be able to look after herself. The petition is signed by Mercier; Pierre Merzeau, Elder and Pierre Gamay, Deacon. A note at the end, in English, states that the Quarterly Court required the petitioner to bring testimony of her French ancestry. Overleaf a second note in English signed by Simon Proye from Picardy, near Edinburgh, states that Jeanne is a descendant of Huguenots and had the registers of the French Church there not been lost after the death of its minister, Mr Du Pont, more evidence would be available, dated 6 November 1799.
