Description | This is the first petition sent by Abraham Ivar, the second one is H/D/2/9/6. In this petition, Abraham claims to be 68 years old whereas in the second one he states he is 70. His father, also called Abraham, was from Saint-Quentin, in Picardy. Abraham had been a silk weaver and a sailor in the Navy but is now a watchman for the parish. However, due to suddenly being paralysed he can no longer work. The petition is signed by Elie Platrier and François Jolit. A note in a different hand, signed by Mercier, states that the petitioner had attended their school. However, he had lost the ability to speak French and did not attend the Church due to him being at sea. Despite this, he had been the night watchman of the French Church in Threadneedle Street for the past ten years so Mercier argues that he could be considered a member of the Church. The note is dated 16 May 1800. |
