Description | Catherine Grard, a 64 year old woman, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. She was born on 3 January 1782. Her parents were Nicholas and Katharina Le Richeux. Both were of Huguenot descent and had been members of the French Church of Threadneedle Street. Catherines had also been a member of the same church prior to her move from England. She was a silkweaver and then became a nurse to ladies in Paris. She has now lost the use of her hand so can no longer work. The petition is signed by Catherine Grard herself and John Le Richeux. At the back, a note states that Catherine's mother's maiden name was Fourrée and was told that her paternal grandfather had been rolled in a barrel with spikes down a hill whilst still in France, due to his religion. Catherine also stated that she was baptised on 26 January 1783 in Threadneedle Street and had produced a certificate signed by Charles Scholl, Pastor. Petition n. 1251. |
