Description | Catherine Fradin, a 72 year old widow, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. She was born on 13 January 1776. Her parents were Claude Bardeaux and Marianne Douchet. Both were Protestants originally from Picardy, who came to England to avoid religious persecution. They were members of the French Church of London. Catherine is silkweaver but can no longer work due to age-related conditions. The petition is signed by Catherine Fradin herself and Peter Charier. At the back, a note states that Catherine Fradin's maternal great uncle, Jean Baptiste Douchet, was better educated than the rest of the family and after reading the New Testament had converted to Protestantism, as had her mother. As a result of the persecutions in France, they had both taken refuge in England. During the same period, Catherine's father, Claude Bardeaux, who was a weaver in Cambrai, Picardy, came to England for the same reason. Petition n. 1272. |
