Description | Zachariah Whelpdale, a 70 year old widower, requests to be admitted to the Hospital. He was born on 26 December 1775. His parents were Thomas Whelpdale and Magdelane Delalombe. The latter was the daughter of James Delalonde, a native of Caen, in Normandy, who fled to England to avoid religious persecution. Zachariah is silkweaver but can no longer work due to poor health. The petition is signed by Zachariah Whelpdale himself and George Green. A note at back, states that two of the petitioner's uncles had been residents of the French Hospital. Olivier Delalande was admitted on 25 August 1788 and James Delalande on 27 February 1795. A second note states that the petitioner's baptism certificate had been returned to his son after his death on 28 November 1859. Zachariah was baptised at St Leonard, Shoreditch. Petition n. 1256. |
