AdminHistory | Early gifts and legacies to the Hospital Corporation had been invested in Government and South Sea stocks. In 1724, however (Court minutes, 8 April), a committee was nominated to examine proposals for the purchase of land or buildings as investments, and from the Minutes of 5 January 1725/6 we learn that they had arranged, subject to confirmation of title, to buy for £6200 houses in Bond's Court, near Stocks Market (now Bond Court, Walbrook). Twelve trustees were appointed to hold the property, and in April 1727 the transaction had been completed. The Bond's Court houses were leased out, some of them to tenants with French names. The property was sold in 1762. |
