AdminHistory | The existing Barony of Lifford was not created until 1768, so the writer must be Major-General William de Roye de La Rochefoucauld, a Huguenot officer who served under William III, was present at the Battle of the Boyne, and in January 1698/9 was apparently created Earl of Lifford in the Irish peerage, though the patent was not enrolled. He certainly used the title. Lifford and his sister, Lady Charlotte de Roussie or Roucy were 'familiar figures about the Court of George II'. He died unmarried in February 1748/9. |
