TitleManuscript arithmetic book
DateMid 18th century
DescriptionContains sums, weights and measures set out in calligraphy; and also rough workings (some tradesmen's bills dated 1761-4 are shown as examples). Pasted inside back cover, a printed multiplication table with the name of Philip Ardouin, School-Master, in Bell Court, Wheeler's Street, Spitalfields.
Some blank pages at the end have been used for entries of births, marriages and deaths of numerous persons named Busher and Jarman, of Bethnal Green and elsewhere in East London, 179-1864. A note of 'funeral attendance' on an earlier page shows relationships.
Extent1 volume
CustodialHistoryThe book belonged to Ann, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Busher. Ann's sister, Sarah Busher, was a Hospital inmate, 1884-6, and this book was perhaps the 'old family record of births and deaths' which she produced as evidence of descent. See Marmoy register.
