DescriptionTitled 'Premier Livre de la Caisse de la Société de la Province de Poitou et du Loudunois', this volume begins with unnumbered pages containing:
i) Extract from the will of Mlle Anne des Landes of Marylebone, 20 October 1718, leaving most of her household and personal possessions and a State Lottery share to the Society, for apprenticing a poor boy from Poitou every third year.
ii) Laws or Regulations of the Society (4 pp.).
iii) Minute of a meeting at the Cerf Blanc, 2 October 1740, at which Monsieur Giraudeau junior was elected Secretary in place of Philippe Liège, who had left for America.
iv) Minute of a meeting at the Cerf Blanc, 20 April 1780, at which it was made mandatory for all pensioners, unless disabled or sick, to attend the Anniversary Sermon.
Regular accounts of receipt (naming all contributors) and expenditure follow (ff 1-62). For the years 1715-1716 the French place of origin of recipients of charity is generally given, with frequently other information of interest, such as 'agée et affligée d'un rhumatisme', 'ayant grosse famille', 'abandonnée de son mari avec 3 enfants', 'tisserand sans ouvrage', 'pour aller en Irlande', 'arrivé le 18 juillet de France avec sa femme et 3 enfants, chirurgien barbier'. From 1716 onwards, only the name of the recipient is usually given.
On f 14 and after f 62 there are notes on Lottery Tickets.
Titled on the outside front cover: 'Société de Poitou et du Loudunois closed 20 July 1812 for want of funds'.
