TitleReceiver's accounts ('Livre de la Recepte des Contributions')
Date12 Apr 1708-12 Apr 1738
DescriptionThe volume, on 109 numbered folios, is a well-kept record of all contributions to the Charity's funds, with the names of contributors. From 1716 the receipts are shown in two groups , those from Spitalfields and those from 'La Ville' (the City). The names of collectors, some female, are usually given. Legacies are usually entered at the end of each account, when (as a rule quarterly) the Treasurer signs a receipt for the money paid over. Up to 1715 the Treasurer also briefly records deductions (for house expenses, wages, rent, butcher's bill, etc.) and the balance kept by him. These expenses are also noted on a fly-leaf at the beginning of the book. Attached to f 92v is a receipt for one guinea from Daniel Gobbé, a Director, for printing 'L'Estat de la Maison', presumably a printed report or account, 1733.
At the end, on f 109, there is a note about receipts from the Bosanquet bequest, and on the back, an auditor's certificate and a note of the Charity's investments at 16 May 1738.
Extent1 volume
AdminHistoryThe volume was opened, as a memorundum recalls, by Philippe Ostome, a Director of the Charity and Receiver of contributions. A note below adds that Mr Ostome's duties were taken over on 10 March 1709 by Bertrand Du Tuffeau.
