Description | The account of monies received by the Chamber of London under this brief (now in the City of London Record Office) extends from 21 April 1686 to July 1688, with three late entries of 1689. Most of the total receipt of nearly £43,000 was paid over to the Treasurer of the French Committee. Seven manuscripts which form a connected series relating to monies paid out by the French Committee from 5 March 1687 to 16 June 1688. All payments were to conforming French Protestants. All the accounts were signed by Wm. Turner, Wm. Gostlin, and Peter Vandeput, three of the Commissioners of 1686 and 1688, who declared that they had seen receipts and certificates of having received the communion according to the usage of the Church of England. In every account the payments are grouped in various categories of relief. All accounts have cover titles. They bear contemporary numbering from 8-14; the original numbers 1-7 are wanting. |
