 The papers contain details of applications, and decisions on the conferment. The minutes contain detailed information on the applicants including: full name (and sometimes age), education, qualifications, experience (teaching and 'other'), post held, salary, timetable of teaching, and a short report on the board's discussions and decision. Papers from 1971 tend to comprise less information about the applicants

| AdminHistory | During the lifetime of the Area Training Organisation and the University of London Institute of Education was responsible for conferring the status and title of lecturers of the Institute. Such status and title were normally only conferred to full time members of staff at the constituent colleges / departments who possesed a 'good academic or other equivalent qualifications appropriate to the post', showed evidence of continued study, and had a record of successful teaching. 
 The Advisory Board was constituted on an annual basis to make a decision on staff applications. Membership consisted of the director of the Institute, two representatives of the University of London, two principals / heads of constituent colleges or departments, and a Professor of Education from the University of London. Their remit was to:
 - consider and make recommendations to the Council on all applications for the conferment of the status and title of lecturer in the Institute of Education, other than those considered by the Selection Committee
 - advise Council as to the academic and professional qualifications of any person whom the governing body of the constituent college or department  may propose to appoint as a principal and desires to receive the status and title of Lecturer of the Institute of Education
 - recommend persons for appointment to panels of advisors fro which persons may be appointed to serve on Selection Committees
