AdminHistory | Before 1985 the Institute complied lists of suggested DES regional courses which were circulated to mostly London based Local Education Authorities to approve the courses and nominate teachers who would attend the courses. In 1985 the DES regional in-service Committee was set up by the Institute to allow LEAs to have more input in the planning of DES regional courses. The committee featured representatives of the Institute, other INSET providers and the London LEAS. The Committees terms of reference were to 'consider and approve proposals, with have the approval of the local body, for the mounting of DES regional courses'. The Committee met twice a year to approval proposals for DES regional courses by INSET providers across London. In 1987 the committee was briefly renamed the London Region In-Service Committee when DES funding was withdrawn and it appears that it was wound up shortly afterwards though the Institute continued to provide similar courses. |
