AdminHistoryIn 1939 Gerald S M De Montmorency, Librarian of the Institute of Education library, invited librarians from other London training colleges to an informal meeting with a view to exchange ideas on administrative and bibliographical difficulties of mutual interest. World War Two stopped any further meetings, but in September 1947 De Montmorency suggested the formation of the Training College Librarians Association, an official association to develop ideas on library administration. The Association's main aim was create a central method of locating educational material in all colleges, by promoting the exchange of bibliographic material and providing direction for research students to find material for reference work. They first met on 1 November 1947 and decided to become an international association becoming the International Society of Training College Librarians in 1948. Meetings were held at the Institute of Education and the society was affiliated with the International Federation of Library Associations and the National Central Library (later the British Library). It produced a news letter from 1949. In 1958 the news letter was amalgamated into the Institute of Education Library Bulletin to become Education Libraries Bulletin.
