- Russell Byrns Curry was born in Port Maitland, Yarmouth Co., Nova Scotia on 19 June 1904, son of Capt. George Madison Curry and Bertha A. Crosby. He was the 7th child of this couple.
He was a wing commander in WW II. He spent a lot of his career in education. His son Peter died in an automobile crash on Aug 28, 1959.
Curry himself was killed in an automobile accident in Edmunston NB on Aug 1st 1974. A year later, there were tenders for a R Byrns Curry school on Owl Drive.
- R. Byrns Curry Public School, Ottawa, Ontario opened in1976.
- School renamed to Bayview Public School, due to Ministry of Education rules.
