Description
Letters between Lidderdale and Dorothy Johnstone and E B Thomson of HM Customs & Excise regarding the circumstances of the Customs seizure in 1923 of James Joyce's 'Ulysses'. A consignment of 500 copies (Harriet Shaw Weaver's second edition, after the first was seized by customs officials in New York) was seized at Folkestone and destroyed except for two copies sent to the Home Office. With copies of Lidderdale's replies. Also two letters from Mortimer W Bennitt (one addressed to Lidderdale, one enclosure for her) on the same subject.
