Most contributions were specially written to provide evidence for Stuart Maclure's book 'The Inspectors' Calling - HMI and the Shaping of Educational Policy, England and Wales, 1945-1992, but some are from other published and unpublished papers. Most papers are one to three pages long, although some are significantly more substantial, and each is individually indexed.
