DescriptionPapers mainly regarding Michael Duane's career as Head Master of Alderman Woodrow Secondary Boys' School, Lowestoft.
Extent1 file
AdminHistoryDuane was appointed Head of Alderman Woodrow Secondary Boys' School in Lowestoft, Suffolk, in 1952. Alderman Woodrow School was an established school and resisted Duane's attempts to end corporal punishment. The building was shared with a girl's school which was separated from the boys. Duane introduced G.C.Es to the school syllabus and came into conflict with the LEA, when protested about the limit on number of grammar school places available for pupils from his school. Though he received a good inspection report, Duane felt it was time to move and left the School in 1959.
