TitleEveline Lowe, London
Date1937-1971
DescriptionA request from the LCC to form a collaboration with the MoE/DES led them to the building of this school.

The Eveline Lowe site was surrounded by derelict industry buildings and tower blocks and had the remains of a bombed out school on it. It was a difficult site which ended with a more linear scheme that was not originally wanted by David and Mary Medd. However there were three principles which the site encouraged them to achieve, the first being a single storey construction which gave children immediate access to the ground, the second was the teaching space which ultimately led to a sheltered veranda and then the outside, and, the third was that each classroom should have its own characteristics in order to make it more interesting.
