Date1975-1980
DescriptionFor two years (1974-6) David and Mary Medd worked on tackling Welsh village schools, some redundant, some to be refurbished, and others to be merged. This was done in association with the Welsh Education Office in Cardiff, and a Welsh HMI near Wrexham. The first widespread study was the Ist Design Note and the design of Ysgol y Dderi in the 2nd Design Note. The project involved the closing of 5 existing schools and the building of a new one at Lampeter (Ysgol y Dderi). The new school was for 120 pupils, aged 3-11 years in 3 centres - one for the unders 5's; a second for the 5-8 year olds; and, the third for the 8-11 year olds. Each had a complement of teachers and a variety of teaching spaces appropriate to the ages of the children.
