AdminHistoryLady Ghetal Burdon Sanderson was the eldest daughter of Ridley Haim Herschell. She married John Scott Burdon Sanderson in 1853. They had no children.

According to her obituary in The Times (Tuesday, Jul 06, 1909; Issue 39004) "Lady Burdon-Sanderson was a woman of considerable literary and intellectual gifts. She assisted her husband and very materially in his strenuous work during more than 50 years of their married life, and at the time of her death was occupied in writing his biography. In early life she also published memoirs of her father and mother. She had a very large circle of friends at Oxford and elsewhere, amongst whom her ready sympathy and keen common sense were always deeply valued and will be greatly missed. She was a member of council of Somerville College, Oxford, and there were many philanthropic societies there in which she took a deep interest. As a member of the National Union of Women Workers she visited Aberdeen for the purpose of attending its annual conference last October. On arriving at the railway station she was thrown over by a truck, and sustained injuries from which she never fully recovered." She died on July 3rd 1909.
