DescriptionThe correspondence 1929-1944 is principally letters from Watson to Joyce Townshend. The correspondence 1965-1969 is principally letters from Joyce Townshend to Watson reporting on her personal activities. There are a small number of letters from Watson's wife and scientific colleagues.

AdminHistoryJoyce Townshend became Watson's research assistant and secretary to the Zoology Department at UCL in 1928. When Watson retired from his Chair in 1951 she continued as his research assistant supported by the Royal Society until his final retirement from research in 1965. She subsequently worked as a research assistant in the Department of Egyptology working on the Flinders Petrie collection. She died in 1974.
