Description | Leaf of a calendar, possibly from an obit book. The leaf is for the month of November. Header text in red on recto and verso with an annotation on the recto in black in a different but near-contemporary hand, and an annotation on the verso which relates to the use of the leaf as binding material, probably in the 16th Century. At the top of the recto is the KL symbol to mark the start of a new month and a note "Novembris habet XXX dies" [November has 30 days]. The feast of All Saints is marked in red on the recto and "November" on the verso. "Omnium sanctores" is also marked in red on the verso, a later hand has written "18" in black beside it. The annotation on the recto reads: "Nota quod dominus Gottfridus de Neydeck prepositus huius Ecclesie legavit Ecclesie nostre Tres libras hallen' quos recipiet Portenarius In kesselfall de martinalibus et hodie inter presentes distribuet." The annotation on the verso is faded but begins "De Re Nummaria Franci Hottom". It is written perpendicular to the rest of the text on the fragment in the section which would have formed the spine when the leaf was recycled for binding, and is presumably the title of the bound work (i.e. Francis Hottoman's "De Re Nummaria"). |
