AdminHistoryJohn Conolly (1874-1866) was an English psychiatrist. In 1827, he was appointed to one of UCL's first Medical Chairs. Conolly was also a contributing member of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK), founded in 1826 by, among others, Lord Brougham and George Birkbeck.

Anthony Todd Thomson (1778-1849) was a Scottish doctor and pioneer of dermatology. In 1828, he became UCL's first professor of materia medica and therapeutics. Thomson was Physician to North London Hospital (later University College Hospital) and Professor of Botany to the Pharmaceutical Society. He was also active in the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge.
