James Yates (1789-1871) was an English Unitarian minister and antiquarian. He left numerous legacies to family members, friends and acquaintances as well as to learned institutions. The latter included an endowment (payable on the death of his wife which was not until 1884) for founding a new professorship of archaeology at UCL.
