DescriptionThe manuscript consists of: 1) 'Sefer Birkat Avraham' (the Blessing of Abraham). Ethical will. Date on title page (given as chronogram) is either 502 [1741 or 1742] or 532 [1771 or 1772]. 6 unnumbered and 77 numbered leaves, followed by 6 blank leaves. 2) 2 untitled pages in different hands, followed by a 10 blank leaves. 3) A continuation[?] of Sefer Birkat Avraham. 34 leaves. 4) 'Hakdamah li-mahbarti Tokhahat musar' (preface to my pamphlet Ethical reproof), probably in the same hand. 8 leaves. 5) One leaf in a different hand. Spine title: M.S. by my ancestor Abraham ha-Levi. Family register (in English and Hebrew) of the Rev. A. Lwy, 1875, on flyleaf. Inscription on flyleaf verso reads: 'Testament of Abraham ben Mordechai - advice to his children and children's children - as to a virtuous and useful mode of life'.

AdminHistoryAbraham Broda (Leipniker Lwy), born Timisoara, Rumania, c1690; dayan of the Jewish community of Usov, Moravia and a respected merchant; succeeded in obtaining permission to build two prayer houses, 1753, and recorded the proceedings in his 'Megilat Sedarim', to be read yearly on Simhat Torah (published in 1895 by Emanuel M. Baumgarten).
