AdminHistory | The Board of Governors was appointed under the terms of the National Health Service Act, 1948, following the amalgamation of The National Hospital (including Finchley Convalescent Home) and Maida Vale Hospital to form The National Hospitals for Nervous Diseases. The Board's first Chairman was Sir Ernest Gowers. Both the Chairman and all the other members of the Board were appointed directly by the minister of health. All the lay members of the previous Board of Management of the National Hospital were invited to serve on the new Board, as were two members of the former Maida Vale Committee of Management. |
