TitleSecond Generation Study: Planning of the reading test for 8-year-olds
Date1970-1972
DescriptionCorrespondence and meeting notes regarding a test to be used in the Second Generation Study, a sub-study of the MRC National Survey of Health and Development (NSHD). These papers capture discussions with the National Foundation for Educational Research in England and Wales (NFER) and other bodies over whether the same test should be used as with the 1946 cohort at the same age (8 years), and how to make the test ‘generation fair’ so that the results can be compared between generations. For example, one issue is whether out-of-date words like ‘muslin’ and ‘guineas’ should be replaced. File also includes word lists, test instructions, and marking guides.
