Description | Papers regarding the Medical Research Council’s 1974 review of the National Survey of Health and Development (NSHD). As the NSHD's core costs have been funded by the MRC since 1962, the MRC carries out these reviews of the study every 5 years. They are therefore also known as 'quinquennial reviews' or ‘QQRs’. At this time, the NSHD was housed within the MRC Unit for the Study of Environmental Factors in Mental and Physical Illness. The file includes:
- a draft report of a visit by an MRC subcommittee in December 1974, which mainly focusses on the NSHD, but also on the Unit's Early Child Development Studies, including the Twin Study; - correspondence between the Unit and the MRC; - the Unit's written responses to the visiting subcommittee's draft report; - a document entitled 'The Future of the National Survey', written by Unit staff, November 1974, shortly before the visit; - an extract from the minutes of the Neurosciences Board meeting, July 1975, agreeing with many of the concerns raised by the Unit over the subcommittee's report; - an extract from the minutes of the Environmental Medicine Committee, endorsing the views of the Neurosciences Board. |
