Description	Coding instructions for processing the data associated with ‘prems and controls’, as part of the National Survey of Health and Development (NSHD). These were children who were part of the original maternity survey in 1946, were not selected for the 5,362 sample that became the NSHD, but who were kept under observation nevertheless. ‘Prems’ were children in the 1946 maternity survey that had a birth weight of 5.5 lbs or less.
