AdminHistoryPares went to work at Liverpool University in 1902 as a staff lecturer in university extension work (adult education) and was central in the founding of the first school of Russian studies in a British university there in 1907. He was the head of the school from its founding until 1917. Pares was also a frequent visitor to Russia in the pre-First World years. Most notably he organised a visit to Britain of leaders of the Duma in 1909 and a return visit to Russia of distinguished Englishmen in 1912. His publications during the pre-First World War period included 'Russia and reform' (1907, London).
