AdminHistoryThe Asylum for the Support and Education of the Deaf and Dumb Children of the Poor was founded on 14 Nov 1792 in Bermondsey, London. Children gained entry by way of an election process every half-year. In 1807 building work began for a new site for the Asylum on the Old Kent Road, London. By 1809 the building was complete and 70 pupils moved in. Originally designed for 150 pupils, it was later enlarged to receive 180 and again to receive 200.
