AdminHistory | Following its conclusion in 1970 that there should be a single 16+ examination, the Schools Council began a programme of research and development in order to decide whether to recommend the new system to the Secretary if State. Investigations were undertaken by the National Foundation for Educational Research, the Schools Council's Central Examinations Research and Development Unit and other bodies. A considerable amount of research was also done by consortia of CSE and GCE examination boards which developed examinations in a variety of different subjects, conducted experimental examinations and feasibility studies and reported their findings to the Schools Council. |
