Title'Fascist activities' files: Ku Klux Klan in the UK
Date1947-1965
DescriptionSome of the documents in this file contain severe use of racist slurs, particularly against Jewish people and Black people.

Material collected by Maurice Orbach MP, regarding the Ku Klux Klan in the UK. Orbach was General Secretary of the Trades Advisory Council (TAC) from 1940 to 1979. The influx of letters from Klan members to Orbach was prompted by his campaign against racial discrimination (see TAC/3/5). These letters were mainly sent from within the UK, although many came from the USA.

File includes:

- letters to Orbach from Klan members;
- leaflets and postcards produced by the Klan in the UK;
- Klan newsletters regarding events in the UK;
- press cuttings regarding the activities of the Klan in the UK, and in the USA;
- articles and reports on the Klan;
- letters to Orbach from people who had received abuse, threats, and propaganda from the Klan in the post.

The anti-Jewish statements in this Klan material are often accompanied by 'anti-Communist' and 'anti-Bolshevik' statements.
