Description | A bound volume labelled ‘Fascist, Vol. II’. It is a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings, with each cutting stuck in place and annotated with the date of the article and the name of the newspaper. The majority of the cuttings in the scrapbook are from local newspapers from around the UK, although some are from religious newspapers.
The cuttings in this scrapbook mainly consist of:
- published letters to newspapers, exhibiting pro-fascist and/or antisemitic attitudes; - reports on the fascist movement in the UK, particularly Oswald Mosley and the 'blackshirts'; - reports on fascist candidates standing for election in the UK, for the British Union of Fascists; - reports of anti-fascist actions to disrupt fascist meetings; - published letters and reports on the position of the Catholic Church in relation to fascism; - published letters and reports on the position of the Soviet Union and Communism in relation to fascism. |
