Description | Correspondence between Paul Hirst, Chair of UCET, and Professor L A Sheridan, Acting Principal of University College Cardiff, Dr Graham Upton Head of the Department of Education at University College Cardiff and Sir Peter Swinnerton-Dyer of the University Grants Council and the University of Wales. The correspondence relates to UGC's plans to cut student quotas for PGCE Primary and Secondary courses and Home Economics courses, and the subsequent implications for the future of teacher education in Wales and particularly the University College's Department of Education. The decision was made in response to recommendations made by a UGC / WAB (Wales Advisory Body for Local Authority Higher Education) Working Party established to review the total provision of teacher education in Wales.
