AdminHistory | Professor Michael Screech was a cleric and Professor of French. He entered UCL in 1943 to study French but after taking a language aptitude test was sent to Oswold Tuck's Bedford Japanese School. After the end of the war he was posted to Japan as part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force until 1947.
In 1966 he returned to UCL as Fielden Professor of French and later became a UCL Fellow in 1982. After his retirement he was ordained as a priest in the Church of England and later served as Interim Chaplain at All Souls College in Oxford, where he was Emeritus Fellow from 2003-2018. |
