AdminHistory | The UCL Slade School of Fine Art (informally known as The Slade) is the art school of University College London (UCL). It was established in 1871 after lawyer and philanthropist Felix Slade (1788-1868) bequeathed funds to establish three Chairs in Fine Art, to be based at Oxford University, Cambridge University and UCL, where six studentships were also endowed. From the beginning The Slade was at the forefront of developments in the field of contemporary art and welcomed students from all over the world and, in offering female students education on equal terms as men, it played a key part in the introduction of women to UCL. |
