Contains model constitution; 1972 freshers week poster; correspondence from staff members stating their opposition to its establishment; letter dated 2 May 1973, from Dave Meneer to R Blackaby, Warden of Goldsmid House, requesting reassurance that students staying in halls of residence would not be discriminated against due to their sexuality; letter dated 22 October 1973 confirming that Gay Soc was to be associated with the Union.

AdminHistoryIn March 1972, Jamie Gardiner, a PhD student in the UCL Department of Mathematics, founded the Homophile Society at UCL. It is thought to be the first university gaysoc founded in the UK.

The society's objectives upon establishment were 'to provide the opportunities and facilities for members to gather together for social events, for meetings of an educational and informative nature, and for meetings convened to discuss and act upon proposals for actively forwarding the cause of homosexual equality'.
