AdminHistory | In March 1972, Jamie Gardiner, a PhD student in the UCL Department of Mathematics, founded the Homophile Society at UCL. It is thought to be the first university gaysoc founded in the UK.
The society's objectives upon establishment were 'to provide the opportunities and facilities for members to gather together for social events, for meetings of an educational and informative nature, and for meetings convened to discuss and act upon proposals for actively forwarding the cause of homosexual equality'. |
