The World Youth Festival was first held in Prague in 1947 and was sponsored by the World Federation of Democratic Youth. The idea was first mooted at the World Youth Conference in London, 1945, at which the World Federation of Democratic Youth was created. The aim was that "young workers, peasants and farmers, students, young people from religious, cultural and sports organisations of all continents will spend their holidays, playing and learning and working together." |
