AdminHistoryThe Young Women's Christian Association first proposed the establishment of a college for working women in 1918. The Educational Committee of the Association formed a sub-committee to promote the plan and to appoint a secretary to collect for a special fund to build the College. The College was opened as an experiment in Feb 1920 under a provisional committee. From September 1920 the College was a self-governing institution. The College trained women who were already in work, and was especially designed for those who had only an elementary school education. The aim of the College was to broaden the outlook of students, to develop their mental and spiritual growth and their capacity for leadership and service. The College did not qualify students for a particular career and did not prepare them for exams. In 1921 it was affiliated with the Educational Settlement Association and in 1924 incorporated under the Board of Trade. The College is still active today as Hillcroft College.
