AdminHistoryWheeler spent the early years of the Second world War in Britain and in north Africa, raising and training the 48th light anti-aircraft battery which swelled into the 42nd Royal Artillery regiment. During 1943 Wheeler and Major John Ward-Perkins and Mortimer Wheeler campaigned to preserve various historic sites in Libya.
