AdminHistoryIn 1967 the British Government set up the National Libraries Committee under the chairmanship of Sir Frederick Dainton (1914-1997) to study the national libraries of England and recommend measures for their reorganization. On the basis of the recommendations of the Dainton Committee, the British Library was founded in 1973 by an Act of Parliament in 1972.
